Clarity Braces

The Clarity brace system is possibly the most popular ceramics fixed brace currently available. The system uses conventional fixed brackets but they are tooth coloured and therefore not so obvious. They offer outstanding results and are an excellent alternative to more common place metal brackets.

Clarity Treatment Path

The process: If you would prefer a less obvious solution, ceramic braces are ideal. This brace may also be more suitable if you are allergic to nickel or chrome. Talk to your orthodontist to see how Clarity could work for you.

Fitting: Your braces are made individually to fit your mouth. Your orthodontist will prepare your teeth ready for the bonding “glue” that attaches the metal brackets to the surface of the tooth. A special light is then quickly held over the surface of the bracket to set the bond. Then a wire (archwire) is placed through the braces. Little rubber bands are placed on the braces. That’s it! You’re done! Each row of teeth takes about half an hour, so if you’re having a full set of braces, it will take about an hour.

Wearing: As with a traditional metal brace your teeth may ache and feel a little bruised as they get used to the pressure. One of the benefits of Clarity Ceramic braces is that the brackets are especially smooth with more rounded edges and can therefore lie flatter against your teeth. Any discomfort will be temporary and your mouth will soon get used to the new appliance. As with a traditional metal brace there will be some food you may have to avoid. However, no matter what you eat or drink, Clarity braces do not discolour or stain.

Adjusting: You will need to have your braces “adjusted” every 6 to 8 weeks. This is to move the teeth into the desired position and create the smile you want. You will not feel your teeth moving, it is a very subtle and gradual process that takes 12 to 18 months. At each appointment the elastic bands will be changed and a new wire may be put in. After an adjustment, you may have some discomfort.

Removing: Taking off your braces is easier and faster than you would or might expect. When your braces are ready to be removed, your dentist or orthodontist will clip the curve on the back of the braces with special pliers. This breaks the adhesive bond between the bracket and your tooth. Each bracket comes off clean, leaving a layer of the bonding glue on the tooth. This can be easily buffed off the teeth and it will also polish the enamel where the bonding adhesive was removed. It’s all very easy, takes about fifteen minutes and leaves perfectly white and shiny teeth where braces had been only minutes before.
