a modern alternative

Lingual braces

Suitable for all age groups, lingual braces are hidden discreetly on the back of your teeth, not on the front like conventional 'train track’ braces. This allows you to go about your daily routine without feeling self-conscious, the braces are virtually invisible when you smile.

At West Street Orthodontic Practice we offer the WiN systems.

Lingual Braces Treatment Path

The Process: If you would rather no one knew you were wearing a brace for aesthetic or professional reasons then WiN could be an option for you. The braces designed to deliver the smile you want.

Wearing: For the first two weeks after your braces are put on, your tongue, lips and teeth may be sore, just as they would be with traditional metal braces. You will be given instructions from your orthodontist as to how to care for and adjust to your new braces. On the whole, most patients experience minimal discomfort and speech interference, after just a short adjustment period, you will be able to eat and speak normally.

Adjustment: Treatment time varies for each individual patient and the amount of work required to align the teeth. It usually takes between 12 to 24 months although many patients will start to see results after just a few weeks. Due to the advanced technology in the customised brackets, precise bracket placement and precision bent wires, your teeth will move in the most efficient manner possible.
You will still be required to visit the practice every 6 to 8 weeks for your orthodontist to check your progress and maintain your brace. New wires will be fitted to the brackets to gently move your teeth into position.

Removal: Once the smile you envisaged has been achieved your orthodontist will remove the brackets from the back of your teeth. This requires some force to break the bonds but it should not be painful. The backs of the teeth are cleaned and polished of any leftover glue.
Once removed a permanent wire is fitted to the backs of the teeth. This will hold your teeth in their new position. You will also be given a retainer to wear at night.
