After Care

At the end of your course of teeth straightening treatment, it is important to follow some simple after care instructions to ensure you enjoy your new smile for life!

RETAINER BREAKAGES

Retainers MUST be checked regularly by the orthodontist. You are reminded to bring your retainer/s to any appointments. Please do call us immediately if the appliance has been lost or damaged. Please remember that teeth can begin to shift in position within a few days without retainers.

‍What to do:
You need to contact the practice as soon as possible to have a new retainer made when you will be advised of a replacement cost. We will need to take new scans and/or impressions and the retainers will be ready for collection approximately one week afterwards.

Mouthguard

It is as important as ever that patients with braces wear mouth guards when playing contact sports or partaking in other activities which indicate special protection. We sell specialist Opro mouthguards which will be suitable for you during your treatment and are designed for patients with orthodontic appliances. As these are generic (one size fits all) they readily allow the teeth to move throughout treatment and no impressions are needed.

We also offer custom made mouth guards which involve impressions being taken which are sent to a specialised orthodontic laboratory. These mouth guards incur a fee for production and fitting.

CLEANING

You will need to purchase a retainer case for protection and Retainer Brite tablets for cleaning the retainers four times a week.
